This walk consists of two loops. The inner loop goes around Tift Pond, a small pond formed by a stone dam. The outer loop follows the general perimeter of the sanctuary. The area was once a farm, but is now forested with hardwoods and pines. The trail around the pond goes past some American Chestnut trees that have survived the blight that has made the species functionally extinct. A short discussion of efforts to re-establish this tree back into the northeast forests will be given.
