Let’s go wander the Asylum (trails) together. Rock scrambles, views, challenges, fun on a somewhat brief (about 4.5-5 mile) wander on a trail that pays off with big views for each rock scramble. We will wander a small section of the Mattabesett Trail that circumnavigates the Asylum Reservoirs in Middletown. This is not a grueling hike, but not a beginner hike due to scrambles and challenges.
TO WEAR: Hiking Boots Mandatory! Wicking layers (we will heat up and cool down as we wander the trail), sunscreen and bug repellent.
TO BRING: Water (2 bottles), bug repellent, sunscreen, snacks (snacks are good – we LIKE snacks), compass, copy of the map, headlamp, extra layer in case we get delayed. Please review the hike safe list and consider bringing the items on it (https://hikesafe.com/the-code) – a sense of humor and adventure and a hands-free pack to carry all of this.
Hikes are rain or shine but biblically bad weather will cancel). Details will be provided well in advance.
Participation is capped. Please feel free to join, if you are feeling well and intending to show up. Please do not RSVP “yes” if you are unlikely to show, or will change your RSVP at the last minute
Yay! Fun! Let’s go explore this amazing season – with views!

Meeting Location Details
Brooks Road at intersection with Cedar Lane, Middletown
Take Brooks Road off Saybrook Road and follow it for about 4.4 miles. As you approach the intersection, we’ll be hiking on the pull-off on Cedar Lane (at that intersection). If you reach the reservoir, you’ve gone about 1/4 mile too far. Look for Carolyn in a grey pickup truck wearing a “Follow the Leader” shirt and signs.
