Open Event

Walk the Locks on the 19th century canal, now a greenway. Park at the restored Keeper’s House at Lock 14 in Hamden, where you can view an exhibit of the former canal and railroad, obtain refreshment from local hosts who are knowledgeable about the trail, and enjoy air conditioning and indoor bathrooms. Walk (or bike or blade) 3 miles north to Lock 12 in Cheshire, where an outdoor display shows how the lock system on the canal worked. This adventure is self-guided (the trail is paved, with a stone dust path on the side; it is flat and smooth, with some road crossings). Six miles RT or arrange your own shuttle at the Lock 14 Keeper’s House. You can also just stay at the Lock Keeper’s House. It is off of Whitney Avenue/Route 10 across the street from the Sleeping Giant Country Club and Aunt Chilada’s.
