Annual Open House and Walk the Locks on the Farmington Canal Heritage Trail. Begin (and park) at the restored Lock Keeper’s House at Lock 14 in Hamden, where you can pick up a trail map, trail mix, and a drink and view an exhibit of the former canal and railroad. Air-conditioning and an indoor bathroom are available. Address is 3908 Whitney Avenue, Hamden CT. Self-guided, you can optionally walk or bike 3 miles north to Lock 12 in Cheshire, where you’ll find an outdoor exhibit of a restored lock. Return via the trail for 6 miles total. You can also stay on site at the Lock Keeper’s House. The trail is flat, paved and mostly shaded.

The Lock Keeper’s House is just south and across the street from Aunt Chilada’s Restaurant. Park on the grass, the driveway is loose gravel and should be kept clear.
