Under, Up, and Over: Explore Prospect Mountain – This family friendly scenic hike will start with a visit to the Granniss pond abandoned horizontal nickel mine. Land Trust group leaders will share the mining history of the mountain and guide a 3 mile hike that will ascend Prospect Mountain, travel the ridgeline and loop back to the summit. Hikers will observe specimen “wolf” trees, scenic views, stone walls, and mixed hardwood forests. Motivated adventurers can extend the exploration with a 0.7 mile walk around tranquil Granniss Pond and enjoy lunch or snacks at the pond viewing platform.
