Like people, forests carry the stories of their past—shaped by time, use, and the environment around them. Trees, soils, and the lay of the land all hold clues to what came before. With a little guidance, even a casual wanderer can learn to “read” the woods and uncover the hidden history beneath their feet.

Join CFPA’s Board Forester, Mike Ferrucci, and Education Director, Beth Merow, for a guided ramble through the beautiful and varied 94-acre Hibbard Forest. As a team of woodland detectives, we’ll explore the signs of past land use, piece together the forest’s story, and discover how history has shaped the woods we see today.

What to Bring:
Plenty of water
Sunscreen and insect repellent
Good hiking shoes

Reminders:
It’s tick season—tuck those pants into your socks and/or wear tick-repellent clothing.
Trails may be muddy if it’s been a wet week.

In case of bad weather, we’ll send a postponement email by 5:00 PM Friday night.

We can’t wait to meet you on the trails!
