Celebrate Connecticut Trails Day with a guided hike through Raptor Woods at the Ansonia Nature Center. Named for the nesting birds of prey sometimes seen soaring above the forest canopy, this moderate hike is designed for adults and older children looking to explore the park’s diverse landscapes.

Led by Rangers Jeremy and Maria, participants will meet at the Visitor Center at 9:15 a.m. for a prompt 9:30 a.m. departure. The hike will last approximately 1.5 hours.

Along the way, hikers will learn about the land’s rich history — from Indigenous presence and agricultural use to forest succession and habitat change. The trail travels through deciduous woodlands, stands of conifer trees, open fields and meadows, and vibrant wetlands, offering an engaging look at the region’s ecology.

This is a moderate hike and is not stroller-friendly. Please wear sturdy hiking shoes and dress appropriately for the weather. Bring a snack and a refillable water bottle.
