An invigorating start awaits. We climb approximate 600 feet in the first .75 of a mile. Passing by a national historic site called, The Barkhamsted Light House Community. Up a series of switch backs to a gentle up hill ridge hike with a final short steep climb to a gorgeous overlook of The Farmington River Valley. A second overlook awaits a short distance away, followed by a long descent to Beaver Brook. Hiking through towering pines past a colonel foundation and once again crossing Beaver Brook, before turning north along the shores of Beaver Meadow. A short side trip to an out and back 240 ft. boardwalk looking out upon the open water. The trail continues onto an 840 ft. board walk that meanders through a Red Maple Alder swamp. The terrain stays moderate with some up and downs and a continuing changing forest landscape, back the the switch backs of early on and down to the parking lot.
