Open Event
Hike to Mt. York via Quinnipiac Trail and to Northern West Rock Ridge via Regicides Trail. Approximately 6 miles, with an option for hikers to return to the trailhead after about 3 miles. Cumulative elevation gain is approximately 800′, with breaks at two excellent lookouts.
The Quinnipiac Trail, the oldest Blue-blazed Trail, was adopted by the CPFA Trails Committee in 1929. Starting from the Paradise Avenue trailhead, we will ascend York Mountain (680′) with southward views, then continue along High Rock Ridge on the Quinnipiac Trail, enjoying westward views and a break.
We will descend and proceed through a lower-elevation section featuring tall pine forest, reaching the Sanford Feeder Trail. From the top of the Sanford Feeder, hikers may choose to return to the trailhead via the Quinnipiac Trail or continue on the full hike.
The full route continues south along the abandoned West Rock Ridge Road and returns on the Regicides Trail, offering views to the west and then east. We will ascend York Mountain again—this time from the south (short but steep)—and return to the trailhead.
Bring at least one quart of water, along with snacks or a light lunch. Arrive by 9:15 a.m. for a 9:30 a.m. start.
