Join two experienced CFPA volunteer trail managers for a 3.7-mile hike in the Naugatuck State Forest to the summit of Mt. Sanford (elevation 887 ft.). This loop utilizes the Sanford Alternate Trail and the blue-blazed Quinnipiac Trail, beginning and ending on Downs Road in Hamden.
The hike will take approximately 2.5 hours at a moderate pace. Along the way, we’ll pause to enjoy scenic and historic points of interest, spring ephemerals that may be in bloom and the expansive view from the Mt. Sanford overlook.
Expect a variety of terrain, ranging from an open field, a woods road and some rocky stretches with moderate climbs and descents.
Sturdy shoes/boots are recommended for rocky sections.
Please bring a snack/light lunch and plenty of water.
Safety: Ticks are common in Connecticut’s outdoor environments, so consider using insect spray or some type of repellent on clothing, etc.
