Join two experienced CFPA volunteer trail managers for a 3.7-mile hike in the Naugatuck State Forest to the summit of Mt. Sanford (elevation 887 ft.). This loop utilizes the Sanford Alternate Trail and the blue-blazed Quinnipiac Trail, beginning and ending on Downs Road in Hamden.
The hike will take approximately 2.5 hours at a moderate pace. Along the way, we’ll pause to enjoy scenic points of interest, spring ephemerals that may be in bloom and the view from the Mt. Sanford overlook.
Expect a variety of terrain, ranging from open fields and woods roads to rocky stretches with moderate climbs and descents.
What to bring:
Footwear: Sturdy shoes or boots are recommended for rocky sections.
Supplies: Please bring a snack and plenty of water.
Safety: Be mindful of ticks, as they are common in Connecticut’s outdoor environments.

The group will meet at the parking area located at the entrance to the YMCA Camp Mountain Laurel @ 2705 Downs Rd. Hamden, CT 06518. Participants should not enter the (gated) YMCA Camp Laurel driveway.
