First – I have indicated that this is a “moderate” hike – and for the whole hike that is appropriate – although there will be some trap rock areas and some relatively steep areas – so for short parts the hike is a bit trickier than moderate. There may also be some short sections of bushwhacking (meaning off official trail). We will hike up to the Lamentation ridge. At that point we will head south on the New England Trail (blue blazed) to the area impacted by the Hawthorne Fire. Part of this section will be on Berlin Land Trust property. Most of the return to our cars will be back the way we came up. I expect this hike to be around 5 miles and at least 500 vertical foot gain. This is a moderate hike – hiking gear such as proper footwear and water and a snack or lunch is desired. We will probably stop near noon at a lookout to rest and eat.
