Kick off Trekking Launch Weekend with a guided climb up Pine Mountain to the scenic Ives Lookout. This moderate-to-challenging hike will take participants through wooded trails and up one of Ridgefield’s most rewarding climbs, ending with beautiful views from the overlook.

Along the way, participants will learn about the natural and cultural history of the area, including the connection to composer Charles Ives, for whom the overlook is named.

The hike will be led by longtime Ridgefield resident Pete Nichols, who grew up in Ridgefield and taught Biology and Earth Science at Ridgefield High School for 35 years. Pete holds a degree in Natural Resources and Environmental Studies from the University of Rhode Island and remains deeply involved in the community through organizations such as the Land Conservancy of Ridgefield, the Ridgefield Parks and Recreation Commission, and the Ives Trail and Greenway.

The hike is approximately 3.5 miles round trip and includes a steep uphill section, so participants should come prepared with sturdy footwear, water, and a sense of adventure.

Join us as we kick off the season by getting outside and discovering the natural beauty right here in Ridgefield.

We will try to start out on the trail at 9:00AM, so we recommend getting there a few minutes early.
