This will be a loop hike to the Heublein Tower in Talcott Mountain State Park, from the MDC Water Treatment Plant at the north end of Reservoir 6. We will walk around the north end of the reservoir to the Metacomet/NET, hike up to the tower (about 1.5 miles, uphill), spend some time at the tower (going up to the observation deck to enjoy the spectacular 360 degree view, watching the educational video about the tower, having a snack, birding, or whatever else you’d like), then proceed on the Metacomet/NET to the Talcott Mountain Bypass trail, which we will take back to where we started. The hike will feature not only the tower, but several improvements which have been made to this section of trail, including a quarter-mile reroute to bypass a chronically wet area, three sections of new bog bridging, and fresh blazing.
