The Mystic River Historical Society is sponsoring a 3-mile group hike through the historic Pequot Woods in Mystic. Pequot Woods Park, located just south of Sandy Hollow Rd, is a 140 acre park, featuring hiking trails, a pond, streams, stone and wooden bridges, and viewing benches. Our hike will traverse a 3-mile loop trail, covering moderate terrain with very little elevation. This hike is suitable for families, and is pet-friendly (dogs must be leashed). PLEASE NOTE that the trail can be wet and muddy, so participants should wear appropriate footwear.

In 1637, just a short distance away from Pequot Woods Park, a fierce battle known to historians as The Massacre at Mystic took place. A force of colonists and their allies attacked the Mystic fort of the widely-feared Pequot Tribe. After the attack, the battle continued westward through what is now known as The Pequot Woods. Artifacts from that encounter are still being catalogued today.
