Expectations and Disclaimer
Expectations:
Everyone is expected to stay with the group as instructed
For children,
Caregivers are actively engaged with monitoring child’s safety at all times – We welcome child-led exploration in this event, and we require that caregivers are responsible for their child as they explore near a pond, a fire, or a cliff…
Caregivers are hands-on in supporting their child’s experience – This event is for the adult caregiver as much as it is for the infant, toddler, child or teen. Children learn by watching the adults in their lives model participating in the activity, as well as respectful listening, participation in circles, love for the land, compassion and curiosity for differences.
Disclaimer:
The safety of each child and adult is our highest priority. We take all reasonable precautions to ensure your and your child’s physical and emotional safety and to provide a quality learning experience that focuses on fun, safety and character development. As in any other experience, we cannot, however eliminate all risk from our programs.
NOTICE: THIS IS A LEGALLY BINDING AGREEMENT. Read this document carefully and in entirety. By registering for this event and/or signing this agreement in the field below, you give up your right and the named minor’s right to bring a court action to recover compensation or obtain any other remedy for any personal injury or property damage however caused arising out of the named adult and/or minor’s participation in this Connecticut Trails Day (CTD), Bethel Land Trust (BLT) and Two Coyotes Wilderness School (TCWS) program, now or at any time in the future.
Acknowledgment of Risk
I, in my legal capacity as the adult and/or parent/guardian of the minor named, do hereby acknowledge and agree that participation in CTD/BLT/TCWS activities comes with inherent risks. I have full knowledge and understanding of the inherent risks associated with CTD/BLT/TCWS participation, including but in no way limited to: (1) slips, trips, and falls, (2) aquatic injuries, (3) athletic injuries, and (4) illness, including exposure to and infection with viruses or bacteria. I further acknowledge that the preceding list is not inclusive of all possible risks associated with CTD/BLT/TCWS participation and that said list in no way limits the operation of this Agreement. I understand that the program takes place outdoors in rocky, swampy and forested terrains. I understand that at times during the program my child and/or me will be in a wilderness area half an hour walk from the facilities of civilization. The following potentially hazardous activities, as well as others not mentioned, may be undertaken: camping, building natural shelters, hiking, wading in knee high water, cooking, fire building, and use of tools. In addition, the participant may encounter mosquito bites, insect stings, ticks, and other outdoor hazards. These activities and events can cause personal injury, property damage, illness or death.
Coronavirus / COVID-19 Warning & Disclaimer
Coronavirus, COVID-19 is an extremely contagious virus that spreads easily through person-to-person contact. Federal and state authorities recommend social distancing as a means to prevent the spread of the virus. COVID-19 can lead to severe illness, personal injury, permanent disability, and death. Participating in CTD/BTL/TCWS programs or accessing CTD, BTL and/or TCWS facilities could increase the risk of contracting COVID-19. CTD, BTL nor TCWS in no way warrants that COVID-19 infection will not occur through participation in CTD/BTL/TCWS programs or accessing CTD/BTL/TCWS facilities. People who are 65 years and older and people of any age who have serious underlying medical conditions or are at higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19 are recommended to stay at home. A list of medical conditions associated with a higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19 can be found in CDC’s guidance, available at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/. Individuals and families should consult their healthcare provider to determine whether they have medical conditions that place them at risk. Staff and children living in households with individuals who are 65 years and older OR have higher risk for severe illness from COVID-19 are recommended to stay home.
