About 6 miles, 3-4 hours. This is a shorter, easier variation of a popular CT Trails Day hike I have been leading for many years. This version is a relatively flat loop hike starting and ending at Brooksvale Park, and includes a lovely walk along Brooksvale Stream in Naugatuck State Forest, which abuts the western edge of the park. Heading out of the park and into Naugatuck State Forest, our first destination and half-way point will be the outskirts of YMCA Camp Mountain Laurel where we will take the Quinnipiac and Quinnipiac Connector Trails to an unmarked trail for a pleasant walk along the banks of Brooksvale Stream, with one rock crossing. Return to Brooksvale Park from Naugatuck State Forest by a different route, following Hickory Brook to the sledding hill, circling the bond, and returning to parking. Hikers welcome to visit gardens and farm animals after hike. In the event of hot weather, please bring 1-2 quarts of water or electrolyte drink as needed. Meet at Brooksvale Park parking lot on Brooksvale Rd. in Hamden at 8:45 for 9:00 start. Pre-registration requested.
