Embark on a challenging 11-mile adventure through one of Connecticut’s most scenic and historic trail systems. This loop combines the iconic Mattabesett Trail—part of the New England National Scenic Trail—with the lesser-known but equally beautiful Lone Pine Trail. With 2,000 feet of elevation gain, this hike is no walk in the park. You’ll traverse rocky ridgelines, descend into deep ravines, cross wooden bridges and boardwalks, and climb through dramatic rock formations.

Expect sweeping views, rich forest canopies, bubbling streams, and a true sense of wilderness. This route links Guilford’s conservation lands with the rugged terrain of Bluff Head, offering a taste of the Mattabesett’s best ridge walking and side-trail solitude. Lace up your boots and blaze the blue and red—this is a loop for those who hike hard and love it wild.
