Steep Rock Association invites you to be one of the first hikers on the newly opened Stone Wall Loop (1.35 miles) in the recently acquired Bantam Preserve.
Starting at the parking area at the end of Upper Mt. Tom Road, follow the red blazes (Stone Wall Loop) down the forest road through mature oak forests with a mixed understory of witch hazel, low bush blueberry, and mountain laurel. At the bottom of the hill, make a final descent into SRA’s Bantam Preserve. From here the trail is fairly flat with shallow rolling hills. The trail weaves through and along the numerous stone walls on the property, a remnant of past agricultural and pastureland. Steppingstones allow hikers to cross a small stream before the trail switchbacks up to meet the forest road that leads back to the parking area.
Dress for hiking: we recommend sturdy shoes, water, and a small snack. Bug spray and sunscreen should be applied ahead of time.
