Get ready to explore the “land between the rivers”! On this guided walk through the scenic trails of Natchaug State Forest, we’ll take in the beauty of its woodlands, beaver marsh, winding river, and even a historic landmark — the stone remains of the birthplace of General Nathaniel Lyon, the first Union general to fall in the Civil War.

Beth Merow, CFPA’s Education Director and self-proclaimed nature nerd, will lead the way, sharing stories and flora, fauna, and fungi fun facts. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or just curious about the forest, this relaxed, family-friendly walk promises fresh air, good company, and even a few “oh wow” moments.

What to Bring:
Plenty of water
A snack (we might pause for a mid-walk break)
Sunscreen and insect repellent
Good hiking shoes
Hiking poles (optional but helpful)

Reminders:
It’s tick season—tuck those pants into your socks and/or wear tick-repellent clothing.
Trails may be muddy if it’s been a wet week.

In case of bad weather, we’ll send a postponement email by 8:00 PM Saturday night.

We can’t wait to meet you on the trails!
