Open Event

Join the Salem Land Trust for a relaxed pace, educational hike at the Zemko Sawmill Preserve. The property sits at the edge of the Rattlesnake Ledges that mark the upheaval of land where two continents collided eons ago. A beaver pond provides flood control, important habitat for amphibians and waterfowl, while the maple/ beech/hemlock forest is an uncommon tree community in Salem. A portion of the preserve also contains American Chestnut Tree restoration efforts. Moderate elevation gain and a 2 to 3 mile hike depending on trail conditions.
