Hike from Pine Mountain Road then South along the Tunxis Trail passing through the Tunxis State Forest. Hike over Pine Mountain with views to the Northeast and then on to the heart of boulder hideaways called Indian Council Caves. View mid 1800’s cellar holes at abandoned village of Caseville. Mostly average terrain, but steep, rock scramble required at Indian Council Cave area. Contact on morning of event only is Cell (860) 306-9501.

Meeting Location Details
Meet at 9:15 at the Tunxis trailhead area on Rte. 219 for a prompt 9:30 start. Car spotting is required.
DIRECTIONS: Take either Rte. 44 or Rte. 4 out of Hartford/Unionville to Rte. 179 North toward Barkhamsted, take a sharp left at approx. 8.7 mi. onto Rte. 219 South. Travel South less than a mile and watch for Hillcrest Drive on the left/Tunxis Trail sign on the right. NOTE: Hillcrest Drive also connects with Rte. 179 approx. 0.5 mi. North of Barkhamsted/Canton town line. Preferred parking is on Hillcrest Drive. Cars must be parked completely off of the road pavement. Additional parking possible on the left side of Rte. 219 at the “old” trailhead just South of Hillcrest Drive. Park perpendicular in the limited space on Rte. 219. Use care on Rte. 219 – very fast moving traffic.
