Foote Path Hike
Sat. Jun 4
approx. 3 miles
This hike goes along the Foote Path at Sperry Pond, winding through woods and some interesting rocky outcrops until it ends by Breakneck Road. The trail was developed by Wayne Foote, for whom it is named. Sturdy walking shoes, a hat and water are recommended. The event is favorable for families with older children.
Meeting Location Details
Begin by parking at 136 BREAKNECK HILL ROAD, MIDDLEBURY, CT, which is THE END POINT OF THE HIKE.
Pull into the unpaved driveway on the north side of the road and park to allow other drivers to enter and exit.
Hikes will be transported to the start of the hike at the Juniper Hill, Sperry Pond trailhead on route 63. The entrance is north of Park Rd Ext, on the west side of the road, marked by two stone pillars set in from the road.
As an alternate, hikers can go directly to that trailhead but parking is challenging there. There is space for one car between the stone pillars, and some across the street – but that requires crossing route 63 on foot. Use extreme caution both parking, exiting parking, and crossing the street. For safety reasons, this option is not recommended. There will not be transport to Sperry from Breakneck Hill Road after the hike ends there.
