Join the Deep River Conservation & Inland Wetlands Commission (CIWC) and Deep River Land Trust for a walk through our largest local woodland. Canfield Woods is a preserve that spans the towns of Deep River and Essex. The 2 towns share management of the preserve and in Deep River, the CIWC is the primary caretaker. We will walk most of the trails in Deep River, visit the town line boulder (you can be in 2 towns at once!), see some impressive geology and wetland habitats including a vernal pool. The hike is hilly, with rocks and roots along the trail bed. Bring walking sticks if you need them, bug spray and face netting, water, and please wear long pants as we may encounter poison ivy.

Overflow parking at Atwood’s Auto Appearance or Deep River Market. Both overflow locations are less than 1/4 mile and there are sidewalks to the Canfield Woods parking lot.
